we simply wouldn't keep doing it otherwiseįor the second week in a row, word reached the start/finish of a faller out on the course. because we do! So if you have a spare week to help out or fancy a go in the "hot seat" please get in touch via Volunteering is FUN. That's not to say we don't also need a constant stream of ad-hoc volunteers. and finally, the pink ladies (and a couple of green men) from Kings Hills were back again! Well done everyone, looks like you enjoyed yourselvesĭo you have what it takes? Yes, you! We run Malling with a skeleton volunteer crew and we really really really need a couple more Run Directors so that we can operate a rota system like many other events.

Can we please have missing tokens 11, 13 and 102 back though? We get quite attached to our little plastic friends number 11 in particular is a smashing little token, beautifully symmetric and full of top 10 promise. Thanks to Amanda, Tim, Adam and Katrina! Runners.

Not to be outdone the equally amazing "funnel crew" were primed and ready to record your times and hand out tokens. While all that running, jogging and walking was going on our smiley scanners Nic and Wilhelmina were ready and waiting. Slightly further down the order in 4th came regular Richard Beavington who has now racked up 91 runs himself - that 100 milestone is just around the corner! Look at him, hardly broken out in a sweat! Well one Richard OK, so onto the run and this week first place was taken by Richard Tomlinson with a new PB of 17:29. I would encourage everyone to give volunteering a go- and I have another goal to aim for - the 25 volunteer shirt - particularly as 250 runs seems an awfully long way off!!" The diversity and inclusiveness of people who come is fantastic- it really is more than just a run in the park. I have also managed to do some volunteering at Malling recently which has been great-as well as paying back as the run can’t happen without the dedicated volunteers- it is great to see a different side of parkrun. For my 60th birthday after Easter we are going to Sicily and yes there is a parkrun on Mount Etna which we will go for- only 8 people did it this week so a high position is guaranteed!! So I have been bitten by the parkrun bug and have also encouraged friends and family to take part with varying but mostly positive success.

It’s a great routine - at 8.45 there are only a few volunteers yet 10 minutes later200 plus people appear as if from nowhere, and then by 10.15 it’s all gone again. I’m not a runner - although I do other sport until recently my only running has been the Saturday morning parkrun. So it was great to do my 100th here and meet my goal of doing it before my 60 th birthday in a few weeks time. "I did my first ever parkrun at the first Malling parkrun back in October 2015. Naughtius was so pleased with his milestone run he sent us a scroll upon which the following was inscribed: Vewy well done Naughtius, you wascal! Maybe next time you'll bwing your vewy gweat fweind fwom Wome.

This week we were wisited by none other than famed Woman centurwion Naughtius Maximus (sometimes known as John Pfeil) who was celebwating his 100th parkwun. Another icy cold but sunny Saturday welcomed 222 runners, joggers and walkers to our amazing course here at Leybourne Lakes Country Park.
